The much-loved giant poppies, that commemorated the centenary of WWI, return to Bracknell Forest this week as part of the borough’s remembrance day activities, and with a new addition for 2022.
A special royal style poppy will join the other six foot-high, fiberglass, red flowers in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who sadly passed away in September this year. This poppy will remain outside the Bracknell Forest Council offices in Market Street, the rest can be found on roundabouts and verges across the borough.
Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes MBE, executive member for environment, said:
“We know how much the public love seeing the giant poppies every year, and this year we wanted to create an additional one to mark the late Queen’s reign. It will now have another significant meaning and residents will be able to remember her and her incredible legacy when they see it.
“This is an important time for reflection for the country and by placing the poppies across the borough we hope residents will take a moment to stop and reflect on the thousands of people who gave up their lives to protect our country in conflicts across the globe.”
